- Hot and cold water
- Food coloring

Procedure:
- Hook: Begin with a captivating image or video of ocean currents. Ask students to brainstorm possible causes of these moving masses of water.
- Exploration:
- Density Currents:
- Experiment: Fill the tub with room temperature water. Add a layer of cold water (colored with blue food coloring) at the bottom. Observe what happens.
- Discussion: Why does the cold water sink? How does this relate to density and ocean currents?
- Surface Currents:
- Experiment: Fill the tub with warm water (colored with red food coloring). Use the fan to simulate wind. Observe the movement of the water.
- Discussion: How does wind affect the movement of water? How does this relate to surface currents?
- Coriolis Effect:
- Demonstration: Use the globe and a flashlight to simulate Earth's rotation and the Coriolis Effect.
- Discussion: How does Earth's rotation influence the direction of ocean currents?
- Density Currents:
- Investigation:
- Divide students into groups. Assign each group a specific ocean current (e.g., Gulf Stream, Kuroshio Current, Humboldt Current).
- Have each group research their assigned current, focusing on:
- Its location and direction
- The factors that drive it
- Its impact on climate and marine life
- Students present their findings to the class using visual aids (posters, presentations).
